Lockdown day 20 - (This post is not suitable for vegans and vegetarians)

I queued for twenty minutes outside the Co-Op yesterday morning. I joined the back of a line of twelve shoppers, all standing very tidily with at least two metres between each other. We all felt comfortable with that, and it turned out to be quite a social occasion. We were let in on a one out, one in basis, and the staff member at the door seemed to be keeping the number of customers inside to four or five. It's only a small supermarket (a supermarkette, perhaps) and no-one was in there for long.

I enjoyed it so much that I went again that afternoon. The queue was the same length as before, but I just had to go in again. I'd forgotten the wine!

We stopped at the Co-Op on our way back from a farm shop that we've only just found out about, though they have only been open for nine months. It must be one of a minority of shops around the world that are benefiting from the virus. They sell a wide range of  high-quality, fresh and frozen meat products at sensible prices, and they're currently being worked to their limit to fulfil an unprecedented number of orders from folk finding their supermarket meat shelves stripped down to one unwanted pack of sausages and a pack of Quorn Ultimate Burgers left there by a shopper who'd just decided that this was the wrong time to become a vegan, and took the rest of the sausages.

We drove out there, having placed an order on their FaceBook page - Park End Farm is only ten minutes away from us - but they will deliver to your door as well. We're well stocked up for a good while now.

Pork and Apple Burgers, anyone?

  1. I was just saying to Koos that social distancing has made people more social, Roger. One of life's ironies...and it's also made the Dutch noisier if that's possible. They now have even more reason to talk very loudly :)))

  2. I didn't know the Dutch have that reputation! It's useful that sound travels so well across water. It makes inter-boat conversations much easier without shouting. :-D
